Title: Baltimore Ravens with Starfire and Raven
Continuing on with my challenge, the 29th of 32 entries, the Baltimore Ravens are represented here. The characters used here are Raven with the black alternate, and Starfire of wearing the home purple uniform, both characters of “Teen Titans”. The number “10” was chosen for the year “2010” as opposed to their best player.
The cartoon version of Starfire and Raven, I haven’t tried drawing either of them, but I am very familiar with them. This was actually the fifth one that I started sketching, but it gave me so many problems that I put this one on hold and eventually started again from scratch. The second effort came out much better that the first, Raven didn’t really change too much, but Starfire had some major changes from the original sketch. The uniform has a very nice look to it. The number font is unique to the uniform, but it did give me a few challenges when I tried it. I actually could have gone with two different teams for these two, it was the uniform colors that helped me choose this team for them, plus having one of the characters share the name of the team didn’t hurt either. The title just sounds like something Starfire would say.
What I Like Most:
I’m glad I decided to do this one over instead of going with the first sketch, this looks much better than that one did. Star’s hair is different than it appears on TV, I just happen to like it better this way. I loved doing their hair, things started slow in that area, but in the end, it came out very well.
What I Dislike Most:
Recently the characters that I draw are starting to look like bobble-heads. Lately I’ve been making their neck too thin, as I look back at some of my old drawings, I didn’t like how thick their neck was, so I decided to make changes there. At this point, it looks like I’m going too far in doing that.
Now, back to my thoughts…overall this was one of the better ones, and had I put some effort into that other hand, it could have been my best one! I am enjoying doing this project, and it’s introduced me to some characters, and a few series that I may have never attempted on my own. 29 down, and 3 more to go!
The best advice I can offer is to keep working on them. Take a look at how others do eyes as well and learn from each style.
